Panda's Statement on Anti-Asian Violence
As we honor the achievements of Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) people in the US this month, we at Panda also reflect on recent events in the news. Panda has deep roots within Chinese communities, not only with our leadership and our staff but also with our entire identity as a brand. We proudly use the name "Panda," not just because pandas are a treasured symbol of China, but also to share our Chinese roots and foster relationships and greater understanding with each other. There's been significant hostile rhetoric focused on China, and it's disheartening to see physical and verbal attacks connected to this negativity. We are in the business of making games that bring all people together and create joy. This is part of our mission and what we stand for: unity, not hate.
We are heartbroken by the increase in hate crimes and harassment against AAPI people. Panda stands with our AAPI family in declaring that hate and bigotry have no place in our business, our industry, our hobby, and our society. All of us deserve to be safe in our communities and live without fear.
Here at Panda, we are doing our best to help reduce negativity and prejudice against marginalized communities by:
- partnering with a diversity, equity, and inclusion consultant
- questioning company policies
- looking inwards at personal biases
- creating safe spaces for ongoing difficult conversations
We have a lot more in common than we may think, and we are stronger together than apart. We must all do better together as we go forward to make a brighter future and #stopasianhate.
